Pre-prosthetic surgery

Pre-prosthetic surgery

When dental prostheses are to be placed on teeth or implants, it is necessary that the tissues (gum and bone) around the teeth or abutment implants present adequate health conditions, thickness and gingival contour for the maintenance and aesthetics of the prostheses. It may be necessary to lengthen dental crowns to improve aesthetics or to be able to place the necessary crowns or veneers, or to increase bone volume in a section that has been edentulous for the future placement of dental implants. Mucogingival surgery would also be a type of preprosthetic surgery if it must be performed before the placement of a prosthesis.

Pre-prosthetic surgery includes crown lengthening with the aim of increasing the length of the teeth for aesthetic reasons or to leave cavities or dental fractures exposed so that reconstruction or prosthesis can be made.
