Kids: Fluorization and Sealing of cracks

Dental care in childhood is a priority at Clínica Dental Dra. Estany. We believe that the first visit to the dentist should coincide with the eruption of the first baby teeth (between 6 and 12 months), and serves as guidance for parents to establish a prevention program. On that first visit we can perform a simple check-up, take control x-rays, control dental plaque, teach brushing techniques and also assess whether there is correct tooth eruption. We recommend making one or two maintenance visits a year, depending on the dental needs of the child.

From the eruption of adult teeth, which usually begins around the age of 6, we assess the need for preventive treatments, such as the topical application of fluoride, or fissure sealing. Fissure sealing is a preventive procedure by which the healthy pits and fissures of the first and second permanent molars are covered by applying a resin. It represents a barrier that protects the areas most susceptible to being attacked by cavities.

It is a very quick, simple and painless technique, which serves not only to prevent future cavities, but also to accustom our little patients to the dental clinic, and to prevent episodes of fear or anxiety, so common among adults.
